Bravecto almost killed her
Symptoms of poisoning
A controversial tick and flea remedy - called Bravecto - was almost fatal for Qrispy. Now, 3 years later, she still has serious coordination problems.
Qrispy is a Belgian Shepherd (Groenendael). At that time (April 2017) she was only 12 weeks old.
She was given the tick and flea 'medicine' Bravecto, and 16 hours after administration she developed very severe symptoms of poisoning. A few days later she was treated intravenously by a specialist vet with a special greasy emulsion (twice), which may have saved her life.
Lipophilic chemical
The owner Laura had almost gotten to the point where she thought it was no use in letting her suffer any longer. Fortunately, she went to a specialist vet practice, and after the treatment her condition quickly improved. She was still walking badly and had serious vision problems.
The vet confirmed that Bravecto was very likely to have caused these serious side effects. The active poison in Bravecto (fluralaner) is a so-called "lipophilic" chemical poison. That is, it likes to bond with fatty substances. By administering a special greasy emulsion, the poison became more bound, and thus probably it was more quickly removed from the body. It is quite possible that it is precisely this treatment that has made the difference for Qrispy ...
